Are Memories Destructive?

Are Memories Destructive?

Are memories destructive? The more I think about the more I begin to think they are.

When I ask this question I’m not referring to our ability to remember, this is vital for life and without it things become impossible, we just cannot cope with everyday life you only have to take a look at someone who suffers from advanced dementia. They can remember their childhood but not what they did 10 minutes ago, where they live or even who their family are.

What I’m talking about is our past, how we remember it and how we keep recalling it.

Clearly there are both good and bad memories, so surely the good ones are helpful and should be recalled at every opportunity to remind us of good times. I don’t think so!

Bad memories clearly are not good for us as they remind us of when things were not good, when we were unhappy, stressed or just not in a good place…definitely not good and clearly a destructive force.

So good memories must be good for us then, well not necessarily. I often see groups on sites like Facebook set up for people who used to attend places that are long gone or maybe an old school class. I for one joined a group for an old nightclub which was very active in the punk era, they had some top bands play there (Sex Pistols, The Dammed, Elvis Costello and many more). I joined as I had some fun times there, met some great people, drank a lot of beer, listened to some awesome music and when I wasn’t too drunk chased some hot girls. The members of the group spent all their time posting about how fantastic it was back then, what a great place it was and how much fun they had.

So how can this be bad for you, how does reliving these happy days become a destructive influence?

Well the problem is that suddenly you realise you are drifting into the past and compared to the present it was so much better. Today starts to look crap compared to what you had in the past, those happy memories that you are reliving are starting to taint your life today.

Basically the past is just that…The Past, leave it there. It may have been bad or it may have been great but don’t let it drag you down or yearn to go back. Don’t get me wrong it’s important to learn from the past so that we don’t repeat our mistakes.

So leave the past behind, live for today and look forward to the future!

Thanks as always

Another photographer I know recently invited me to a small private cinema that could be accessed and used during the daytime when not showing films. The owners were kind enough to let use explore the whole building including the projections room etc

I've found that recently I have lost my enthusiasm and desire to do shoots which seems to be dragging on quite a while, but it was fun to do something different and shoot a male nude for once.

6 Months have passed...

6 Months have passed…

I’ve just realised that 6 months have gone by since I last wrote a journal entry!! My last one gave you all an insight into what goes on during a photo shoot and answered the often asked question…do you get to sleep with the models? Well as over 8,500 people have read it I’m sure you know the answer, but if not then it’s still here bikeboypunk.deviantart.com/jou… if you want to read.

I do realise that I have been a little quiet on here for a few months and the number of images I’ve posted has declined. The explanation is that I have been focussing on a new project (unrelated to photography) and so this has taken up most of my time and money.

However I have still been doing the occasional shoot and more images will be uploaded in the near future. I will also be planning a few shoots and as winter passes and the weather improves I’ll be heading out into the countryside to do more location nudes.

I’ve also taken the time to review my dA profile and am amazed to see that I have had over 82,000 page views, over 1600 watchers, 925,000 image views and my most popular image has been viewed nearly 39,000 times. These figures amaze me as I still don’t consider my work to be at a standard that I am completely happy with, I see other work on here and am blown away by the standard and quality of those images. It just makes me want to strive even harder to get closer to them.

However these figures do make me very grateful for the support I receive on here and the comments are always welcome. Furthermore this is a fantastic community and I have made some great contacts, sadly many are too far away to meet in real life :(

So just leaves me to say thank you to everyone who views my work and takes the time to fave or comment on it and to all my watchers I will be producing more new work from the shoots I am planning, more to follow on that soon :)

Thanks as always

This is the bit that most people probably don't bother to read anyway, but I guess I should say something otherwise there will just be a big blank space here, so here goes...

I'm a UK photographer based in the north of England who's been shooting for a few years now. I started doing motor-sport and landscape but have now moved into shooting models and in particular art nude.

My passion is to shoot out on location and I have done numerous shoots at various locations including derelict factories, an abandoned church, castles, streams & waterfalls, quarries, fields and woods and also beaches.

I do shoot glamour but my preference is art nude, I love to create something that will make the viewer think.

I love to work with creative models, ones who like to experiment even if it's to try out the unusual and wacky.

I work with both amateur and professional models but I'm more interested in their attitude and creativity rather than how long they've been modelling or whether they do it for a living.

Whilst I prefer to be out on location, I also work indoors and have a small workshop studio with lighting and backdrops, very useful when the weather lets me down :)

I’m always looking for models who would like to work with me and maybe collaborate on ideas. In return I will provide images from every shoot and promise to keep you supplied with cookies and drinks.

I love it when my work strikes a chord with someone, even more so when they are a fellow photographer.  I will be adding more from that shoot, so add me to your watchlist if you would like to be notified.
